Our HPC experience led us to recognize the advantages of virtualization very early in its development cycle. As one of the early adapters, we set up our in house Proof Of Concept lab to deploy one of the first virtualization solutions. We now have a dedicated team of engineers who have deployed several Virtualization projects totaling a cost saving in excess of $ 11 Million. Most recently, we deployed a virtualized system for a large print media company in India with some amazing features. 25 data center locations were consolidated to 7 high availability locations. Huge utilization inefficiencies were consolidated bringing, greatly increasing utilization factors. Redundancies built into the original design, costing several crores ($ millions) were brought down to almost negligible. DR was optimized since fewer locations had to be mapped. Management of the infrastructure improved drastically since there would be fewer sites to manage, freeing up resources for other value added activities. In a similar project with another Hindi print media customer (World’s largest read Hindi daily), Progression’s offering consolidated 36 locations to 10 for production applications, and from 36 to 1 for business applications. Additionally, several DR sites were brought down to 1. A third project using similar customer benefit focus helped India’s largest glass bottle manufacturer to consolidate 7 national sites to 1 with 1 DR location. 14 staff members were released for other IT activities, reducing infrastructure head count to 2. Production applications were brought down from 7 to 2 locations with optimized data backup to 1.
